About Us

YV Commission is an independent news site that keeps track of benefit changes in two countries: Social Security in the United States and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in the United Kingdom.

We started this site for a simple reason. When a payment date moves, a cost-of-living increase is announced or a new rule kicks in, the official notice is usually accurate but hard to read. Meanwhile, a lot of what spreads online is either exaggerated or flat-out wrong. Think “bonus payment confirmed” headlines that turn out to be nothing.

We want to sit in the middle. Our job is to read the official announcements, check the numbers and explain what has actually changed, who it affects and when, in plain language.

What We Cover

Our coverage is split into two sections.

Social Security (US)

  • Payments & COLA: monthly payment dates, schedule changes and the yearly cost-of-living adjustment
  • SSI & SSDI: Supplemental Security Income and disability benefits, including limits, amounts and rule changes
  • Retirement: claiming ages, the earnings test, spousal and survivor benefits

DWP (UK)

  • State Pension: the yearly increase, State Pension age, and pensioner payments like Pension Credit and the Winter Fuel Payment
  • Universal Credit: rates, payment dates, the move from older benefits and changes to the rules
  • Disability & Carers: PIP, Attendance Allowance and Carer’s Allowance

Some stories don’t fit neatly into one box, like an SSA service update or a new DWP debt rule. We file those under the main Social Security or DWP section.

Where Our Information Comes From

We start every story with the official source, not with another website’s version of it.

For US stories, that usually means ssa.gov, SSA press releases and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, whose inflation data decides the COLA. For UK stories, it means GOV.UK, DWP announcements, Parliament and the Office for National Statistics.

We also read reporting from established news outlets and analysis from groups like AARP, The Senior Citizens League, the Institute for Fiscal Studies and benefit charities. When we use their figures or estimates, we say so in the article and make clear whether a number is official or only a forecast.

We link to our main sources so you can check them yourself. You shouldn’t have to take our word for it.

Who Writes for Us

Articles on this site are published by the YV Commission Desk, a small editorial team that follows US and UK benefit news every day.

Every article goes through the same routine before it goes live. One person writes it, and another checks the key facts, dates and dollar or pound amounts against the original source. If an official figure hasn’t been released yet, we say that clearly instead of guessing.

We also go back to older articles. When something changes, such as an estimate being replaced by the official number, we update the story and note the date of the update at the top.

[Note for you, remove before publishing: once you have a real author or editor, add their name, a two-line bio and a photo here. Google gives more weight to sites where readers can see who is behind the content.]

What We Are Not

We want to be completely clear about this.

  • We are not a government website. YV Commission has no connection to the Social Security Administration, the Department for Work and Pensions, or any other government agency in the US or the UK. We are not endorsed by them, and we don’t speak for them.
  • We can’t access your records or your claim. We can’t check your payment, change your details or help with an application. For anything about your own benefits, contact the SSA through ssa.gov or the DWP through GOV.UK.
  • We don’t give personal financial or legal advice. Our articles explain general rules and news. Your situation may be different, so speak to the agency or a qualified adviser before making a big decision.
  • We will never ask you for personal details. We won’t ask for your Social Security number, National Insurance number or bank details. If someone claiming to be from this site does, it isn’t us.

Spotted a Mistake? Tell Us

We check our work carefully, but benefit rules are complicated and mistakes can happen. If you think something in one of our articles is wrong or out of date, please let us know through our Contact Us page. Include the article link and what you think needs fixing.

When we correct an article, we fix it quickly and add a short note explaining what changed. You can read more about how we handle this in our Editorial Policy and Fact-Checking Policy.

You can also use the contact page for story tips, questions about our coverage or general feedback. We read every message, even if we can’t reply to each one.

Thanks for reading YV Commission.
