If you get Supplemental Security Income (SSI), check your bank account at the end of this month. A second SSI deposit is coming on Friday, October 30, just four weeks after the first one landed on October 1.
Before anyone gets too excited: this isn’t extra money. It’s your November payment, arriving a couple of days early. And because it comes early, there won’t be an SSI payment in November at all.
Here’s why it happens, the full list of October dates, and how to plan so the gap doesn’t catch you out.
Why November’s payment is coming on October 30
SSI is normally paid on the 1st of every month. But when the 1st falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, the Social Security Administration sends the money on the last business day before it.
November 1, 2026 is a Sunday. So the November payment moves back to Friday, October 30.
The amount doesn’t change. In 2026, the maximum federal SSI payment is $994 a month for an individual and $1,491 for an eligible couple. Many people get less than that because other income reduces the payment, and some states add a supplement on top. Whatever you normally receive is what you’ll get on October 30.
Every Social Security and SSI payment date in October
October is a busy month on the payment calendar. Here’s who gets paid when:
| Date | Who gets paid |
|---|---|
| Thursday, Oct. 1 | SSI recipients (October payment) |
| Friday, Oct. 2 | People who started Social Security before May 1997, and people who get both Social Security and SSI. Usually paid on the 3rd, but Oct. 3 is a Saturday. |
| Wednesday, Oct. 14 | Social Security, birthdays on the 1st to 10th |
| Wednesday, Oct. 21 | Social Security, birthdays on the 11th to 20th |
| Wednesday, Oct. 28 | Social Security, birthdays on the 21st to 31st |
| Friday, Oct. 30 | SSI recipients (November payment, paid early) |
If you receive both SSI and Social Security, you could see three deposits this month: October 1, October 2 and October 30.
The part people forget: no SSI in November
This is where an early payment can cause trouble. The money arriving on October 30 has to cover all of November. The next SSI payment won’t come until Tuesday, December 1.
If you pay rent or other bills at the start of the month, it can help to set aside the October 30 deposit, or move it into a separate account, so it doesn’t get spent before November begins.
For people on regular Social Security, November has one change of its own. The payment for birthdays on the 1st to 10th comes a day early, on Tuesday, November 10, because Wednesday, November 11 is Veterans Day. The rest of the month runs as usual:
- Nov. 3: started benefits before May 1997, or get both Social Security and SSI
- Nov. 10: birthdays on the 1st to 10th
- Nov. 18: birthdays on the 11th to 20th
- Nov. 25: birthdays on the 21st to 31st
And it happens again in December
Don’t be surprised when the same thing shows up two months from now. January 1, 2027 is New Year’s Day, a federal holiday, so the January SSI payment will arrive early on Thursday, December 31, 2026.
That means two SSI deposits in December, on December 1 and December 31, and none in January.
The December 31 payment will also be the first one to include the 2027 cost-of-living adjustment. SSA announces that figure on Wednesday, October 14, and current estimates put it at around 3.4% to 3.6%.
What to do if a payment doesn’t show up
SSA’s advice is to wait three extra mailing days after your scheduled date before contacting them. If the money still hasn’t arrived, call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) or visit your local office. They can trace the payment and replace it if needed.
One more thing: SSA will never call, text or email to say you need to pay a fee or “confirm” your details to receive an early or extra payment. If anyone does, hang up. It’s a scam.
